Battle for Azeroth becomes World of Warcraft’s fastest selling expansion to date

Wow is dead, right? Wrong, with the game’s latest expansion, Battle for Azeroth, proving to be the game’s most popular expansion to date, selling over 3.4 million copies on day one, surpassing the initial sales of all previous content packs.

In a press release, Blizzard stated that this is just the beginning, as plenty of new game content will be coming to World of Warcraft in the coming months, including Warfronts, the first of which will be a 20-player co-op battle for Stormgarde in the Arathi Highlands. On September 4th, the expansion will also receive its first raid, Uldir, as well as the game’s first PvP season and Dungeons.

Battle for Azeroth comes after the success of the game’s Legion expansion, which successfully brought back a large number of both old and new players to the series, revitalising the world’s most popular MMO. Battle for Azeroth builds upon this success by bringing back the faction war, while also focusing on areas that are deep within the series lore, stemming back to the events of the original Warcraft series of RTS games.
