Battlefield 6 will “be grounded” – It won’t be the next Call of Duty

Battlefield 6 isn’t going to become a cross-over skin-filled abomination

Let’s face it, Call of Duty is no longer serious about its settings. The series has become filled with increasingly ridiculous cross-over skins, breaking the game’s immersion with any big TV/movie IP that can inject some cash into the franchise. Shashank Uchil, the design director of Battlefield 6, has promised that EA’s upcoming shooter won’t be like that; the game will “be grounded.”

This news comes as music to the ears of many FPS fans. There’s no shortage of gamers who aren’t a fan of Call of Duty’s attempts to mimic Fortnite. While many gamers enjoy these cross-over skins, there are others who want their games to take themselves seriously.

It has to be grounded. That is what BF3 and BF4 was – it was all soldiers, on the ground. It’s going to be like this (points to Battlefield 6’s key art)

I don’t think it needs Nicki Minaj. Let’s keep it real, keep it grounded.

Battlefield 6 will “be grounded”

Battlefield 6 aims to be a “spiritual successor” to Battlefield 3 and Battlefield 4. These games are widely seen as some of the best games in the series. Battlefield 6 will feature a full single-player campaign, the game’s iconic multiplayer modes, and infantry-focused combat. While the game will make changes to the classic Battlefield formula, the game aims to feel like Battlefield at its best. Thankfully, that doesn’t include Family Guy skins and similar nonsense.

If EA wants Battlefield 6 to be a success, the game needs to appeal to Battlefield’s core fanbase. Above all, the game needs to capture the fun of the series’ best releases. Furthermore, it needs to deliver the destruction and mayhem that the franchise is known for. If Battlefield 6 tries to be Call of Duty or Fortnite, the game will fail. Let’s hope that EA knows what they are doing, and aren’t trying to make Battlefield something it isn’t. That said, EA’s reportedly aiming to attract over 100 million players with Battlefield 6. Is that achievable? We’ll find out soon.

Battlefield 6 is coming to PC and consoles on October 10th. PC gamers can have a look at the game’s beta PC system requirements here. Note that EA has partnered with Intel to optimise Battlefield 6 for PC.
