Blizzard reveals Warcraft III: Reforged – A Remastered Classic
Warcraft III released back in 2002, long before World of Warcraft and in an era where PC hardware would be considered less than basic by today’s standards. This was a time before Dual-Core x86 processors were still a few years away, back when 3DFX was officially acquired by Nvidia.  Â
While Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos is an old game, and its graphics car considered mediocre today, it is hard to deny that the game has a strong legacy, forging the story of World of Warcraft’s greatest expansions while constructing a lore that still remains relevant to gamers today.
Following the success of Starcraft: Brood War Remastered, Blizzard has decided to create Warcraft III: Reforged, remastering both Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos and it’s expansion The Frozen Throne with 4K ready visuals, updated animations and recreated cutscenes, all while retaining support for multiplayer play with the original Warcraft III. Â
The remaster will release sometime in 2019, or as Blizzard puts it, “on or before December 31, 2019”, with the game supporting both MacOS and Windows 7 or newer operating systems at launch. Technically speaking, the game still supports Windows XP and Vista, but these OS’ are unsupported by Battle.net.Â

Warcraft III: Reforged is a stunning reimagining of the revolutionary real-time strategy game that laid the foundation for Azerothâs most epic stories. It is a remake in the truest sense, featuring a thorough visual overhaul, a suite of contemporary social and matchmaking features, and more. Command the Night Elves, Undead, Orcs, and Humans as alliances shift and armies clash in this timeless real-time strategy game.
As a recreation of a 2002 PC title, it is pretty safe to say that any modern gaming PC will be able to handle Warcraft III: Reforged, as while the game’s assets have been updated, the game at its core remains the same as it always was, hence the game’s multiplayer compatibility with the original.Â
Fans of Warcraft III’s Campaigns should note that many of the game’s maps have been changed to better reflect their appearances in World of Warcraft, something that will allow certain story elements of Warcraft III to better impact players of World of Warcraft.Â
Warcraft III: Reforged will require Battle.net to play. Pre-orders for the remaster are currently available for $29.99 US.Â
