Borderlands 3 Release Date Confirmed – Will be Epic Games Timed Exclusive

Gearbox has confirmed that Borderlands 3 will be releasing later this year, taking gamers on PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4 on a new journey to Pandora on September 13th.

According to a press release from 2K, Borderlands 3 will release as a timed exclusive on the Epic Games Store for six months, with the game launching on other PC platforms after that short exclusivity period.

On PC, Gearbox will be partnering with AMD to deliver an enhanced PC version of Borderlands 3 for the platform, which means that we should expect bespoke FreeSync 2 support, optimisations for heavily multi-threaded processors and optimisations for Radeon graphics hardware.

Gearbox’ CEO Randy Pitchford has stated that “2K/Take-Two has exclusive publishing rights for Borderlands 3 and makes all decisions regarding price-points, territories, distribution and platform partnerships,” which means that Gearbox has no control over Borderlands 3’s Epic Games Store exclusivity. In another comment, Pitchford stated that “exclusives are fine when they come w/ advantages and when they are short—say, six months.”

At this time Borderlands 3 lacks PC system requirements, though we can expect the game to run well on a wide range of systems, as is common with most AMD partnered PC releases.
