Bungie insists that they are not banning Destiny 2 PC players for using overlays

Destiny 2 launched on PC less than a day ago, but now reports are emerging from across the internet showing PC players being banned from the game within hours or even minutes of starting, with many PC gamers initially blaming their bans on 3rd party analytics applications and overlay tools like Rivatuner, Discord and capture programs like OBS.

Bungie staff have gone online and stated that the company does not ban users for trying to use blocked overlay tools, though they have not given a reason why so many players have been banned from playing the game. Cosmo, a community rep on Bungie’s Forums had this to say.

Third-party applications that aren’t compatible with Destiny 2 may cause the game to not run but won’t result in a ban.

This statement does not add any clarification about why Destiny 2 players have been banned so early after the game’s release, as the sheer number of complaints are so high that it is unlikely that the users are all cheaters, especially this early on in the game’s lifecycle.

Bungie is now left in a position where they will need to start lifting bans, or at a minimum start issuing refunds to the affected parties. Hopefully, Blizzard/Bungie will issue a more detailed response later today.

This leaves PC players of Destiny 2 in limbo, as players don’t know how to avoid getting banned and affected players are completely unable to play the game that they have bought and paid for. So far there are several theories as to why these players have been banned, though there is no concrete information at the minute.
