Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 will be AMD’s First FSR “Redstone” game
Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 is the first game to use AMD’s FSR “Redstone” technologies
AMD has confirmed that Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 will launch on PC with FSR “Redstone” Ray Regeneration, an AI feature that enhances the appearance of ray tracing effects. Furthermore, FSR AI Frame Generation will be coming to the game as part of a post-launch update.
Black Ops 7 will be the first game to utilise one of AMD’s “Redstone” AI features. Sadly, it lacks support for AMD’s entire FSR 4 “Redstone” feature set. This means that AMD’s Neural Eadiance Caching tech and ML Frame Generation features are missing. Black Ops 7 will support AMD’s FSR 4 AI upscaler at launch.
AMD’s Ray Regeneration tech is effectively an AMD alternative to Nvidia’s DLSS Ray Reconstruction technology. It uses AI to regenerate pixels that wouldn’t otherwise be accurately ray-traced or path-traced. This enables a higher level of detail without requiring additional ray casts. This makes games with ray tracing appear less grainy and aliased. Without this tech, a much higher ray count would be required to achieve this level of detail, significantly hampering game performance. Note that this is one way that AI can make games run more efficiently.
Available on AMD Radeon™ RX 9000 Series graphics cards, FSR ‘Redstone’ Ray Regeneration goes live tomorrow in Call of Duty: Black Ops 7.

Call of Duty will be the first of many games to feature AMD’s Redstone technologies. These technologies will be the cornerstone of AMD’s gaming roadmap. They are expected to be widely used on gaming PCs, consoles, and other devices. AMD and Sony’s Project Amethyst is part of AMD’s effort to bring AI technology into future games. Tight integration with PlayStation will help AMD achieve this goal. Furthermore, AMD’s partnership with Microsoft/Xbox should ensure that these technologies also make it to Xbox.
