Call of Duty: Black Ops 7’s Campaign is a disaster

Black Ops 7’s campaign cannot be paused in solo mode

Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 is now available, and gamers are not happy with the game’s campaign, especially its solo play mode. While a lot can be said about the campaign’s storyline, its issues stem from Black Ops 7’s focus on co-op gameplay. Simply put, this campaign is a terrible single-player/solo experience. Honestly, I wonder how the game’s single-player mode could ship in this state. It’s almost like Treyarch decided to stop caring about solo players.

For starters, this Call of Duty Campaign can’t be paused. Furthermore, if you stop playing for too long, you will be kicked from your single-player campaign mission. This will force players to restart the mission, as the campaign has no checkpoints. Additionally, the game will not give solo players AI companions to fill the roles of other players. To say the least, this isn’t a good single-player experience.

To play the campaign, players must engage with the game’s matchmaking and lobby system. An online connection is also necessary at all times to play the campaign. Offline play is not an option. Treyarch went all-in on co-op gameplay, forgetting that many gamers want to play campaigns solo to better engage with their story/narrative.

If you enjoy single-player campaigns, Black Ops 7 wasn’t made for you

Honestly, Black Ops 7’s campaign has left a bad taste in my mouth. If you want to play a shooter with a proper single-player campaign this year, you should play Battlefield 6. Black Ops 7 almost feels like a parody of traditional Call of Duty campaigns. Treyarch calls this Call of Duty co-op campaign innovative. It feels like a slap in the face to those who have enjoyed prior Call of Duty campaigns. If you thought Modern Warfare III took COD campaigns in the wrong direction, know that Black Ops 7 has taken things further down the path of mediocrity.
