CD Projekt Red has confirmed that Cyberpunk 2077 will be a first-person role-playing game, a major change from The Witcher 3’s 3rd person perspective.

According to those who have played CD Projekt’s E3 gameplay demo, the game can be played with either a male or a female character called V, with players having stats including strength, constitution, intelligence, reflexes, tech and cool, all of which are from the tabletop RPG that the video game is based on.

Like the Witcher 3, NPCs can give players quests, and each of these quests has unique dialogue options, characters can level up in Cyberpunk 2077 and “Street Cred” is an important metric for game progression.

The title’s FPS combat is said to play out a lot faster than games like Fallout 4 while remaining slower than the likes of DOOM and Borderlands. Players will also have the option to use a matrix-style slow-motion/bullet-time mechanic that can slow down time and make combat easier for a limited time.

Like all CD Projekt Red RPGs, Cyberpunk will offer players a vast open world where player choices can have in the moment consequences as well as broader implications on the world stage. Healing potions will not be an option in Cyberpunk 2077, though a specialised inhaler can provide players with some form of regenerative ability.

Some late-game abilities like blade arms and wall running were showcased during the demo, as well as armoured enemies with exoskeletons.

Hopefully, some of CD Projekt’s gameplay demo will make its way online in the near future, allowing us to get a better look at what to expect from CD Projekt’s Red’s first post-Witcher RPG.
