Cyberpunk 2077 will receive an Xbox Series X upgrade – Better yet, the upgrade is free!

CD Projekt Red has announced the Cyberpunk 2077 will receive a next-generation upgrade for Xbox Series X, confirming that the game will release on next-generation consoles, as well as Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Stadia and PC.

This is the first time that CD Projekt Red has officially confirmed that Cyberpunk 2077 is coming to a next-generation console platform. Better still is the fact that the upgrade to the game’s Xbox Series X version will be a free one, and the same may apply to PlayStation 5.

We can assume that Cyberpunk 2077 will also be released on PlayStation 5, as releasing their game on just one of the next-generation consoles would simply leave money on the table for CD Projekt Red. With PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, gamers can expect some of the extra graphical features of Cyberpunk 2077’s PC version to transition over to the game’s console versions, offering gamers crisper visuals and potentially a high framerate mode.

This is a hugely positive move from CD Projekt Red, who has taken an opposing stance to Rockstar Games, who released Grand Theft Auto 5 on both the PS3/Xbox 360 generation and the PS4/Xbox One generation as full-priced titles, offering no cheap upgrade options for existing owners.

Xbox One users can purchase Cyberpunk 2077 on their consoles and upgrade to Xbox Series X content in the knowledge that Cyberpunk 2077 will be upgraded for free as they transition to their next-generation hardware. Only time will tell if Sony will offer gamers the same option.
