Cyberpunk 2077’s Phantom Liberty Expansion has sold 3 million copies, and most of them were on PC
PC dominates Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty expansion sales, surpassing Xbox and PlayStation combined
Alongside their announcement of a new live-action Cyberpunk 2077 project, CD Projekt Red has released the early sales numbers for their Phantom Liberty expansion for Cyberpunk 2077. Over three million copies of Cyberpunk 2077’s Phantom Liberty expansion have been sold across PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PlayStation 5. These are CD Projekt Red’s week 1 sales numbers, and they are dominated by PC.
So far, PC account for 68% of CD Projekt Red’s Phantom Liberty expansion sales. That more than both Xbox and PlayStation combined. More than two times Xbox and PlayStation combined in fact!
These sales figures make a lot of sense. Cyberpunk 2077’s patch 2.0 and Phantom Liberty Expansion are exclusive to current-generation platforms. That means that gamers on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 miss out. Not all PlayStation and Xbox owners of Cyberpunk 2077 can purchase the game’s expansion, but all PC owners can. The whole PC playerbase can purchase Cyberpunk 2077’s DLC, but only a subset of the game’s Xbox and PlayStation playerbases can. That has an impact.
In recent weeks, CD Projekt Red has also seen a lot of success with the release of Cyberpunk 2077âs Phantom Liberty expansion. On PC, the game runs well and takes advantages of the newest technologies that the platform has to offer. This includes support for a variety of upscalers, extensive ray tracing support, and optimisations for a broad range of PC hardware configurations. The game even runs on handhelds like Valve’s Steam Deck.
