Darkest Dungeon 2 has been announced

Red Hook Studios has confirmed that Darkest Dungeon II is now in development, succeeding the studio’s original famed original. For the uninitiated, Darkest Dungeon is a turn-based roguelike RPG which allows players to form parties of adventurers who will then navigate the titular “Darkest Dungeon”, a former manner house which has become infested by eldritch horrors.

The game’s core mechanics are accompanied by appropriate artwork, an atmospheric soundtrack and a voiceover which is provided by Wayne Jude, a voice actor who’s perfect for any role that’s vaguely Lovecraftian.

To mark the announcement of Darkest Dungeon II, Red Hook Studios released their first teaser trailer for the game, which is titled “The Howling End”. In the teaser, we see some familiar characters, the Grave Robber, Leper, Man-at-Arms, Plague Doctor, Highwayman and Hellion, all of which were featured in the previous game.

Like its predecessor, Darkest Dungeon II will release first in Early Access, with the game offering a different structure to the original. The game’s combat will be a finely tuned version of the original, but it appears as if other aspects of the game will receive a major overhaul. Based on the free developer comments available, the game’s overworld structure will become more of a journey, instead of an ongoing attempt to spruce up the local village and destroy the hellish creatures that infest the local manor house and its surroundings.

At this time we know that Darkest Dungeon II will take players to “the world beyond the estate”, but at this time it is unknown what that means.

At this time Darkest Dungeon II has not Early Access release date or an ETA. At this time of writing Darkest Dungeon is available on Steam for £4.74, a 75% discount over the game’s standard pricing.
