Discord launches Steam-like Game Tab update

To expand their feature set, Discord has released their Game Tab update, a place where gamers can quickly start their favourite games, catch up on gaming news and have a look at what their friends are playing. 

This update is now rolling out to Discord users, which means that these functions should become available to all users in the coming days, allowing them to see for themselves exactly what the Game Tab brings to the table. The screenshot below should showcase a lot of what can be done on the app, though it remains to be seen how the News feed is updated and how many games can be added to Discord’s quick launcher.  

The game tab update will also be useful to gamers who are part of large discord chats or have a lot of online friends, as the Game Tab area makes it a lot easier to see how many friends are playing specific games. 

 

  

This new area adds a lot of Steam-like functionality to Discord, allowing Discord to further replace Steam as a social gaming application. At this time it is unknown how Discord plans to further expand their service in 2018/19, especially after their partnership with Microsoft/Xbox.
