Hyper Light Drifter is currently available for free on PC

For the next week, Heart Machines’ Hyper Light Drifter is available for free on Windows-powered PCs, courtesy of the Epic Games Store, with the offer extending until August 22nd.

Hyper Light Drifter is an action role-playing game which pays homage to classic 8-bit and 16-bit games like the Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past. Here, players play as the Drifter, a character that has access to technology which has been long forgotten by the rest of the game world. As the game progresses, players must tackle increasingly challenging monsters and challenges while relying on the game’s music and visuals to tell its story.

Strangely, the Epic Games Store only lists Windows PC system requirements for Hyper Light Drifter, despite the fact that the game supports Linux and macOS on Steam. The Epic Games Store lacks Linux support, but MacOS support is available. macOS support isn’t advertised by the Epic Games Store version of the title, which means that the game is only intended to run on Windows-powered systems on Epic’s Storefront.

During this time, Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden is also available for free on the Epic Games Store, with Fez being listed as Epic Games’ next free game.
