id Software confirms Nvidia issues with “Game Ready” driver in DOOM: The Dark Ages

DOOM: The Dark Ages has known crashing issues with Nvidia’s “Game Ready” driver

id Software has confirmed that users of Nvidia’s GeForce 576.40 “Game Ready” driver may suffer from “persistent crashing” when playing the game on PC. Sadly, this is the only driver that id Software recommends playing the game with, suggesting that gamers should reboot their systems and reinstall the driver if they run into issues.

Another thing to note is that several of DOOM The Dark Ages’ known issues are exclusive to users of Nvidia RTX 40 or RTX 50 series GPUs. Many of these issues are related to frame generation and “Alt-Tabbing”. These are issues that should be fixed with an upcoming GeForce GPU driver.

What GPU drivers are needed to play DOOM: The Dark Ages on PC?

Players running the game on supported NVIDIA GPUs will need to have 576.40 or higher installed.

Issue: Some users with NVIDIA GPUs who installed NVIDIA GPU the 576.40 drivers may experience persistent crashing when playing the game.
Resolution: Rebooting your system, then reinstall the driver and relaunching the game should resolve this.

(It would be embarrassing for Nvidia if their latest bundled game has driver issues, right?)

These problems are hugely embarrassing for Nvidia. After all, DOOM: The Dark Ages is a game currently bundled with Nvidia graphics cards. These issues also diminish the company’s reputation. “Game Ready” drivers should not feature multiple known issues when playing the game for which they are “Game Ready”.
