Intel highlights the Premiere Pro performance of its latest graphics hardware 

With the release of Premiere Pro 14.2, Intel is keen on highlighting the performance of its Quick Sync Video (QSV) technology, which has allowed Adobe to optimise Premiere Pro’s video transcoding operations. 

The benefits of Intel’s Quick Sync Video technology is that it allows most of Intel’s consumer processors to accelerate video encode and decode operations and while doing so with a relatively low power envelope. 

With Intel’s latest Ice Lake series processors, which feature Gen 11 graphics, Intel has delivered a 2x increase in encoding speed over the company’s 9th generation mobile CPUs. These 10th Generation Ice Lake processors also offer higher quality  H.265 encodes than what was previously offered, which is great news for those who require low-cost editing systems. 

Note that Intel’s Gen 11 graphics are only available in Intel’s 10th Generation Ice Lake series processors, which are only available on laptops at the time of writing. Also, note that many of Intel’s 10th Generation mobile processors are using Comet Lake silicon and feature Intel’s 9.5th generation graphics. 

While Intel’s Gen 11 graphics solutions are impressive, they aren’t available across a wide range of systems. Desktop users cannot access Intel’s Gen 11 graphics, and Intel’s Ice Lake processors can only offer users a maximum of four cores on mobile systems.

When compared to the company’s 9th Generation graphics, Intel’s Gen 11 Ice Lake graphics have allowed Intel to deliver 49-82% more performance in Premiere Pro 14.2. This is a significant leap in performance generation-over-generation, though Intel stresses that users can utilise their Integrated graphics for video decoding while still using discrete graphics solutions for other video effects.  

Below is a chart of Intel’s encoding performance in Premiere Pro version 14.2 for its Gen 11 and Gan 9 graphics solutions. Further performance improvements are possible with Intel’s upcoming Xe-powered graphics solutions, which will arrive in notebooks with Tiger lake later this year.
