It appears that PS4 boxed versions of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered have appeared at retail stores, pointing towards an imminent standalone release for the title.

Previously Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remaster was an exclusive piece of content that was attached to premium versions of Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, which has since received both paid DLC content and microtransactions.

If these recent leaks from Charlie Intel are trustworthy, it looks like the PS4 version of Modern Warfare Remastered will release within the week, with other console and PC versions potentially releasing later, finally delivering this highly anticipated remaster to a wider audience of gamers.

Right now, Modern Warfare Remastered is an “add-on title” for Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare’s Digital Deluxe Edition. Right now, Modern Warfare Remastered is exclusive to those who purchase Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare’s £59.99 Digital Legacy Edition or £79.99 Digital Deluxe Edition, which is a slap in the face for those who only wish to buy the HD re-release of Call of Duty 4 separately.

Not only is Modern Warfare Remastered exclusive to a small subset of Infinite Warfare owners, but it also has its own £11.59 “Variety Map Pack” DLC, which includes maps that were released for free with the original game and makes the game even more prohibitively expensive.

At the time of writing Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered represents the worst the AAA gaming industry has to offer, forcing what should be an attractive game remaster of a classic game into an expensive game bundle and then forces users to pay for DLC that was free with the original game.

Until Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered is released as a standalone product it is certainly not a game that we consider worth recommending, with a small core player base and a stupidly high price.

Activision owes it to gamers to release Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered as a standalone title, though at this time it is unknown how much the publisher wants users to pay for their latest remaster.
