Microsoft has announced that their next Windows 10 feature update will be released in October, bringing ‘Redstone 5’  to the masses under the ‘October 2018 Update” name.

This feature update will make several changes to Windows 10, adding improvements to security, the company’s Edge browser, and changes to the OS’ design scheme.

One of the most significant changes is additional support for ARM-based chipsets, most notably the Qualcomm Snapdragon 850, which offers LTE connectivity and compute on a single, low-power SOC. This update will enable the creation of future “Windows on Snapdragon” devices, which are said to offer up to 25 hours of battery life in thin and light form factors.

Other changes include improvements to Windows 10’s “Dark Mode”, by adding support for this feature to the Windows 10 file explorer. On top of that, Windows 10’s Game bar will be updated to include performance stats and other new features.

Microsoft plans to release more information about their Windows 10 October 2018 update closer to its release. UL Benchmarks has also confirmed their plans to release a new Ray Tracing benchmark around the launch timeframe of this new update, giving the world one of its first Ray Tracing performance measuring tools.
