Minecraft Looks awesome with path tracing

While the visuals offered by Minecraft can be considered basic, that doesn’t mean that the game doesn’t have the potential to wow players, especially once the power of modding has been added into the mix.

In a recent Twitter post, a SEUS (Sonic Ether’s Unbelievable Shaders) mod user known as notglacier showcased a development build of the mod which featured path tracing, showcasing indirect lighting, reflections and other advanced visual effects. In short, the results are stunning.

In notglacier’s tweets, videos showcase the impact of lighting through windows and glowstone lighting on a scene, revealing accurate illumination on his i9-9900K/GTX 1070 Ti-based gaming PC. At this time, the in-development version of SEUS mod with Path Tracing is only available to Patreon backers for the mod, though the feature will eventually make it into a free/general release of the mod.

Performance-wise, this mod ran at around 25-40FPS on notglacier’s GTX 1070 Ti powered system, though the gamer did not specify the title’s resolution. Even so, these are some impressive visual results, given the demands of path-tracing.
