Minecraft with RTX will release in beta this week

Minecraft with RTX will release in beta this week with DLSS 2.0

Get ready, because Minecraft’s RTX update is coming to Windows 10 on April 16th, bringing with it full path-tracing, physically-based materials and support for Nvidia’s DLSS 2.0 technology.

This update is “Minecraft with RTX”, packing in the features of Nvidia’s RTX series graphics cards to deliver a full representation of what the combined powers of AI and attracting can do with even the most simplistic of titles.

Minecraft’s RTX update will be available for free on PC, with the only downside being that the update requires Nvidia’s RTX series graphics cards to achieve playable performance levels. With attracting cranked up to 11, compute-based DXR compatible graphics cards will not cut the mustard, especially at high resolutions.

With Path-Tracing, Minecraft receives ray-traced global illumination, soft shadows, full reflections, light refraction through glass and water and high-quality atmospheric effects. In short, Minecraft has never looked better.

Nvidia plans to release a Minecraft RTX driver this Wednesday, preparing the way for Minecraft with RTX. Nvidia has also created 6 RTX creator worlds for players to explore when the game releases, highlighting the impact of raytraced visuals across multiple map types.

What’s worth noting here is that Minecraft with RTX’s beta is a beta. Nvidia has stated that Minecraft’s DXR/raytracing will likely see further optimisation before the game’s official release. The performance of the game will also vary significantly from scene-to-scene, based on the number of rays that are cast at any given time.

DLSS 2.0 will be a major feature within Minecraft with RTX, enabling higher levels of performance than would be possible without AI. Thanks to DLSS 2.0, Minecraft with RTX can offer image quality levels that are comparable to native resolution renders, both with much higher performance levels. Some areas of captured images will look better, and others will look worse. Even so, gamers shouldn’t be able to tell the difference outside of a side-by-side comparison.
