Nintendo plans to release a Mario Kart game on mobile platforms

It looks like Nintendo plans to expand their mobile gaming offerings, moving beyond Super Mario Run to create more games for both iOS and Android. This effort will start with Mario Kart Tour, a title that is almost certainly a racing game, though at this time no real details about the game are known.

It is likely that Mario Kart Tour will be a free-to-play title like Super Mario Run, offering optional microtransactions within the app. This app will differ from the Switch’s Mario Kart 8 Deluxe significantly, as today’s mobile phones will not provide anywhere near as much GPU performance as a Nintendo’s home/handheld console in modern games.

Nintendo has revealed that Mario Kart Tour will release in the fiscal year that ends in March 2019, which means that the game will release sometime between April 1st, 2018 and March 31st, 2019.
