NIS releases statement regarding Ys VIII: Lacrimosa Of Dana’s issues on PC

Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of DANA’s PC release has been far from perfect, with the game currently sitting on Steam with “Mostly Negative” reviews from the game’s players.

The game’s issues range from crashes upon startup, shakey controller support, VSync issues, text and audio problems and graphical instability. Thankfully, NIS is aware of these issues and are currently working on patches to address these issues, though that is no excuse for launching the game in such a poor state n both Steam and GOG.

A fix for the game’s V-Sync related issues will be available within the next 48 hours, though some of the game’s other problems will likely take a while longer to address. In the meantime, NIS America has released a “launch crash & controller temporary fix” guide to work around some of the game’s problems.

Strangely, some of these issues have only been found on the Steam version of Ys VIII, with GOG seemingly being unaffected. These issues presumably stem from Steam’s controller support, causing crashes upon startup, frame rate loss and a loss of controller/gamepad functionality. Even so, both the Steam and GOG versions of Ys VIII: Lacrimosa Of Dana seem to have issues.

NIS has committed themselves to addressing the Ys VIII: Lacrimosa Of Dana’s issues on PC, starting with the game’s client crashes initially and then work on the game’s other problems afterwards.

Another major issue with this game’s PC version is a lack of proper resolution scaling, with resolution options do not affect the title’s internal resolution, merely upsampling or downsampling the game to your display’s native resolution.  For example, if users select an ultra-wide resolution, the game will still display at 16:9 with black bars at either side.

Right now Ys VIII: Lacrimosa Of Dana is not worth purchasing on PC. We recommend that PC gamers wait until the game is fully patched and can function properly before making your purchasing decision. No PC game should release with this many issues.
