Nvidia clarifies that Red Dead Redemption 2 doesn’t support Raytracing after confusing Tweet
Nvidia’s Tweet implied that Red Dead Redemption 2 supported RTX raytracing, mentioning only Nvidia’s RTX 20 series of graphics while showcasing screenshots of the game where Red Dead Redemption 2’s lighting was getting showcased. This article is to clarify that Red Dead Redemption 2 lacks support for hardware-accelerated raytracing, which will hopefully put an end to the “Does Red Dead Redemption 2 support raytracing/RTX” discussions that are popping up online.Â
While Nvidia later clarified that “Red Dead Redemption 2 does not have ray tracing” in its original Tweet; we must note that Nvidia’s regional Twitter accounts, such as Nvidia Geforce UK, are releasing the same Tweet without any alterations or Nvidia’s clarification. With this in mind, we feel that it is appropriate to clarify that Red Dead Redemption 2 lacks support for raytracing.
Nvidia could have avoided this confusion if they watermarked their images with a generic (non-RTX) Geforce logo or simply mentioned their GTX 16 series in their Tweet. Remember the GTX 1660 Super? The graphics card that Nvidia release this week that exceeds Red Dead Redemption 2’s recommended PC system requirements? There is no reason not to mention the GTX 16 series here…Â Â Â
Just a heads up to avoid confusion – the GeForce RTX logo here references our GeForce RTX 20 series products. Red Dead Redemption 2 does not have ray tracing.

While we understand why Nvidia wants to push its highest-end gaming products, but if Nvidia wants to make its RTX branding synonymous with raytracing, they need to avoid mistakes like this in the future. Placing the RTX logo on a game suggests that it supports an AI-powered technology like DLSS or supports raytracing on RTX series graphics cards.Â
