Nvidia releases a stunning raytracing trailer for Watch Dogs Legion

To kick off GDC, Nvidia has unveiled a collection of trailers to showcase the use of RTX within future game releases, among which are Minecraft, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2. 
 
Today, Nvidia has released a stunning RTX trailer for Watch Dogs: Legion, which will feature raytraced reflections within the game. This will enable accurate reflections and bounce lighting, replacing traditional cube maps with fully accurate reflection data on windows, puddles, cars, and other surfaces.

The use of raytracing in Watch Dogs works around the issues with both screenspace reflections and cube map reflections by enabling bounce lighting and in-game reflections to fully react to the game world, enabling dynamic advertisements, moving objects, off-screen geometry and more to be reflected with ease. Even explosions and other player-spawned chaos will be accurately reflected. 

Watch Dogs: Legion will launch in March 2020. The game is likely to support raytracing using the DXR API over Microsoft’s DirectX 12 API. At this time, Ubisoft has not committed enabling raytracing support for non-Nvidia graphics hardware when DXR complainant hardware releases from both AMD and Intel.   

This trailer represents an early look at Watch Dogs: Legion’s RTX implementation, which means that it is subject to change before the game releases.
