Over 75% of all PS3 games are now “Playable” on RPCS3

Most PS3 games are now playable on PC through RPCS3

The RPCS3 team has confirmed that over 7% of all PlayStation 3 (PS3) games are now playable using their emulator. This update confirms massive progress on the PS3 emulator, which had only reached 70% playability this January.

Playable games in RPCS3 can be “completed with playable performance and no game-breaking glitches”. Additional games can be played with RPCS3 on PCs with higher-end PC hardware or with game patches/mods. This means that the vast majority of the PlayStation 3’s library can now be played on PC.

Emulation is more important than ever

Later this year, the PlayStation 3 will turn 20. Sony has confirmed that the PlayStation 3 store will shut down soon, making many digital PlayStation 3 games inaccessible to newcomers to the platform. PlayStation 3 hardware is also becoming harder to find, as the console has officially reached retro status.

To preserve the PlayStation 3 and its gaming library, emulation is becoming a go-to solution for many retro gaming enthusiasts. With emulation, most classic PS3 games are now playable on modern hardware. Furthermore, many of these games can be improved by increasing their framerates and rendering resolutions. Many PlayStation 3 games now look and play best on RPCS3.

New “Playable” games on RPCS3

Since April, many popular PS3 titles have become playable on RPCS3. This includes Driver: San Francisco, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time HD, Skate 2, Ratchet: Gladiator,  Ninja Gaiden 3, and many other titles. In total, 2681 games are “Playable” through RPCS3, which is 75.33% of the game’s library.

2026 has been a big year for RPCS3, and we are excited to see what further improvements come to the emulator this year. Congratulations to the RPCS3 team for their progress this year, and their dedication to keeping the PS3 alive. With Sony abandoning PlayStation discs and closing the PlayStation 3 store, RPCS3’s importance to game preservation has grown significantly in recent weeks. Without it, much of the PlayStation 3’s history would be at risk of being lost forever.
