Since making these statements, Ian Bell has since deleted his Tweets, but he didn’t move quickly enough to prevent GTPlanet from archiving his comments.
With Project Cars 4, Slightly Mad Studios appears to be moving away from the developer’s design decisions from Project Cars 3, which made the game much less complex and removed important mechanics like pit stops from the title. This led to mixed reviews for the game and negative reviews from many of the franchise’s core fanbase.
It is likely that Project Cars 4 will be a next-generation only release, allowing Slightly Mad Studios to take advantage of powerful next-generation hardware to more accurately simulate real-world driving. Ian’s comments stating that “every leaf shadowing every other leaf” suggests that the game will utilise a highly advanced lighting system. It is possible that the game will also utilise ray tracing in some form.
While Ian’s comments about creating “the most realistic simulation ever” is little more than hype building at its core, his desire to return Project Cars to its simulation roots will be welcomed by the game’s core audience, especially after the disappointing launch of Project Cars 3.
