Quake Champions will be a free-to-play title with a paid option

Quake Champions will be a free-to-play title with a paid-for option that will allow players to own all characters outright, allowing all PC gamers to play the game with all maps and game modes for free.

The main differences between the game’s free and paid-for versions will be how characters are accessed, with free players only having access to the Champion, Ranger, initially and paid for players having access to all characters from the start.

This business model is designed to maximise Quake Champions’ playerbase, making the game accessible to all PC gamers, while still allowing players to access all character content with a single payment. Free-to-play players will be able to access additional characters using in-game currency, though this will only give players access to these characters for a limited period of time.

At its core, it’s a free-to-play game, with the option to buy the Champion Pack and just get in and play with all the Champions.

There are a number of Quake players that just want to play their Quake, right? And they are familiar with the business model of our previous games, and they are totally fine. ‘I want to buy the game. I want to start playing. I want to have access to all the Champions.’

But then we also understand that we want to get as many people into the game as possible, especially outside of North America and Western Europe, where we have a massive fan base. So we want to have the flexibility to have a free-to-play option for those people.

Right now Quake Champions has no firm release date, though Bethesda does state that the game will release sometime in 2017.
