Star Wars Battlefront II Classic’s latest update broke the game

This week, Lucasfilm Games released an update for 2005’s Star Wars Battlefront II, sixteen years after the game originally launched. In recent years, Disney has worked hard to restore many classic Star Wars titles, making them more playable on modern PCs while adding support for higher resolutions, modern gamepads and more.

Star Wars Battlefront II’s latest patch was designed to deliver better UI scaling for modern resolutions and provide official gamepad support to the game. Sadly, this update also added many new bugs to the game, causing the game to crash for many players while breaking many popular mods for the game.

Some users had reported resolution scaling issues while others said the games controls not working correctly. Others reported crashes and other game-breaking issues, forcing Lucasfilm Games to pull the update from Steam and GOG. In an update on Steam, Lucasfilm Games stated that they were “Reverting to the previous version” for Star Wars Battlefront II.

This reversion should come as a relief to Star Wars Battlefront II’s fanbase, who are still enjoying the shooter to this day. Let’s hope that Star Wars Battlefront II’s next update won’t be as game-breaking, as it would be a shame to see such a classic game ruined by a minor update.
