Starfield’s latest update has added FSR 3 and XeSS support for the game

Starfield’s FSR 3 update has finally arrived – Frame Generation for everyone!

Starfield’s FSR 3 update has now exited beta, giving all gamers on PC access to AMD’s Frame Generation tech. Previously, this update was only available to Steam beta users, limiting support for the feature to a minority of PC gamers.

Now, Starfield’s 1.9.67 update is available on both Steam and the Micorsoft Store (and PC Game Pass). This update has also added support for Intel’s XeSS technology as well as multiple stability improvements. You can see our thoughts on Starfield’s FSR 3 support in our beta update analysis here.

What is FSR 3?

AMD’s FSR 3 technology is their newest iteration of FidelityFX Super Resolution. Essentially, it is an updated version of FSR 2, which allows gamers to utilise temporal upscaling to boost the performance of their games. With FidelityFX Super Resolution 3, AMD has improved upon their FidelityFX Super Resolution 2 technology by adding a new feature called “Frame Generation”, which can dramatically increase the framerate of supported games using generated frames.

With Frame Generation, FSR3 adds interpolated frames in-between traditionally rendered frames. In ideal scenarios, this can deliver a 2x framerate boost to gamers. This increases the motion clarity of games, making them appear smoother.

Unlike Nvidia’s DLSS Frame Generation technology, AMD’s solution is not exclusive to the company’s latest graphics cards. Users of modern AMD, Intel, and Nvidia graphics cards can benefit from FSR3 and its Frame Generation component. This makes FidelityFX Super Resolution 3 a feature that can benefit almost all PC gamers.

The Future of Starfield

Bethesda Game Studios plans to support Starfield long-term with new content updates and expansions. Later this year, Starfield should receive its “Shattered Space” expansion and a series of free content updates.
