Steam sets a new record with 35 million concurrent users

Over 35 million gamers were logged onto Steam last night, and 11 million were in-game

Steam’s userbase is growing at a rapid pace, with last week’s concurrent player record of 34 million already being smashed with a new peak of over 35 million. The Steam userbase is growing, and that is a great thing for the overall PC market.

Recent successes like Helldivers 2 and Palworld have helped to grow Steam’s user numbers. That said, those games alone are not responsible for all of Valve’s growth. Other recent releases like Last Epoch have played a role, and ongoing successes like Baldur’s Gate III, and Elden Ring have kept gamers engaged.

In February 2021, Steam’s peak concurrent user count was just over 26 million. Now, three years later, Valve has grown their concurrent user numbers to over 35 million. That’s over 30% growth in 3 years. Not bad for what was already PC’s most popular gaming platform.

The success of Steam is a clear sign that the PC gaming market is growing. That’s great news for the PC hardware market, peripherals market, and all companies that are supported by PC gamers. Even so, the growing PC gaming market can only do so much to counter the impacts of the world’s poor economic conditions.
