Telltale games hit with massive layoffs – Mayor projects reportedly cancelled

Telltale Games, the developers of the episodic The Walking Dead game series, has reportedly laid off most of the studio’s staff, with the company planning to retain around 25 staff members.

Last year, Telltale laid off 90 employees, a number that was estimated to be around 25% of the developer’s staff, a move which was designed to refocus the company to create “fewer, better games”. This reveal of new layoffs comes little more then a month after the release of The Walking Dead: The Final Season, leaving Telltale with a small crew of developers to finish the series.

Several independent reports have claimed that Telltale’s upcoming projects like The Wolf Among Us 2 and their Stranger Things game series have been cancelled, leaving the studio with an unclear future.

The Verge has reported that employees from Telltale have been dismissed from the company with no severance package, with several analysts expecting the company to file for bankruptcy after the completion of The Walking Dead: The Final Season concludes. Telltale Games has not publically confirmed these layoffs at this time.

– Update – Telltale Games has officially confirmed that the company has started a “majority studio closure”. A small group of 25 employees will stay with the studio to fulfil the company’s obligations to its board and partners.
