This Skyrim mod makes 120Hz gameplay easier than ever before

One of Skyrim’s major flaws on PC is the game’s lack of support for framerates of over 60Hz. Hacks and mods can work around this limitation, but most of them are clunky, beyond that, a lot of heavy .ini modding is required to prevent physics issues within the game at framerates of over 60FPS. 

Right now, running Skyrim Special Edition at over 60Hz in fullscreen mode requires the use of tools like SpecialK or a lot of alt-tabbing. A new mod called “Monitor Refresh Rate Uncap” hopes to make this process easier. This mod needs to be combined with .ini hacks to create a bug-free high framerate Skyrim experience, but the same applies to other Skyrim framerate hacks. 

Skyrim Special Edition’s “Monitor Refresh Rate Uncap” mod promises to increase Skyrim’s framerate cap to your screen’s maximum refresh, boosting the game’s maximum refresh rate from 60Hz to as high as 300Hz. The plugin is passive and unloads once the game is patched, a factor which should give the mod no performance overhead.  

The creator of this mod recommends that Skyrim players install Skyrim Special Edition’s “HavokFix” plugin for Skyrim Script Extender 64, a mod which dynamically adjusts the settings of Skyrim’s Havok physics engine to match the game’s current framerate. This mod is designed to enable dynamic framerates within Skyrim, and reduce the performance overhead of Skyrim’s Havok physics at high refresh rates.
