Total War: Medieval III has been revealed

The “rebirth” of historical Total War has started

Creative Assembly has officially unveiled Total War: Medieval III. The game is now in “Early Development” and will use Creative Assembly’s new “Warcore” engine. Warcore is Creative Assembly’s “Evolved” Total War engine, which aims to deliver better visuals, animations, and performance. Note that this new engine uses DirectX 12.

Medieval III is a game that is “years away”. Over time, Creative Assembly plans to unveil more about Medieval III as the game progresses through its development. This will allow Creative Assembly to set clear expectations for their game. Updates will be given on a “roughly quarterly basis”.

We’ve been waiting a long time to say this: Total War is going back to the medieval era ⚔️ Total War: MEDIEVAL III is now in early development!

This isn’t just a sequel; it’s the rebirth of historical Total War. And we’re bringing you on the journey with us.

Creative Assembly

With Medieval III, Creative Assembly wants to create the “ultimate Medieval Sandbox”. Sadly, it will be a long time before we see this game in action and see if Creative Assembly can live up to its ambitions.

This is the earliest that a Total War game has been revealed. We have no gameplay, but we have a plan. With new tech and a renewed focus, let’s hope that Creative Assembly can make a success of their next historical Total War game. You can learn more about Creative Assembly’s vision for Total War: Medieval III here.

Note that Creative Assembly plans to unveil its next Total War game at this year’s The Game Awards. If rumours are to be believed, this game is Total War: Warhammer 40,000.
