Total War Saga: Thrones of Britannia – First in-engine footage

Later this year, Creative Assembly will be releasing Total War Saga: Thrones of Britannia, a new addition to the Total War series the focuses on a specific period in history, rather than a longer era like titles like Medieval, Empire and Shogun.

These new Total War experiences will offer players a more story-driven narrative, at least for the primary factions, blending standard Total War mechanics with quests to tell the story of certain historical characters and events.

Below is a trailer showcasing some of Thrones of Britannia’s first in-engine footage, showcasing Alfred the Great as he laments his current situation. At this point in history, Vikings have invaded England and in the Anglo-Saxon states have lost a lot of territory to their invaders. Like all future Total War Saga games, Thrones of Britannia takes place at a turning point in history, places where even the most minor of changes could change everything.

Alfred the Great’s victory at the Battle of Edington, in which he stood fast against the Viking invaders and changed the future of the British Isles, marks the player’s starting point in Total War: Thrones of Britannia.

Creative Assembly has already showcased Total War Saga: Thrones of Britannia’s campaign map, which is over 23 times larger than Britain was in Total War: Attila’s map. In the game, players can take the role as the Viking invaders, as well as English, Scottish, Irish and Welsh kings.
