Bethesda dives deep into Starfield: Shattered Space ahead of launch

Starfield’s Shattered Space expansion is launching this month – Here’s what you need to know

Shattered Space, Starfield’s first major expansion, is launching this month, and Bethesda has given gamers an in-depth look into the experience. This expansion will be available on PC (Steam and Game Pass) and Xbox Series X/S on September 30th, and it features a handcrafted new world and explores the mysteries of House Va’ruun.

This expansion occurs in a single world, promising gamers a more isolated experience than Starfield’s base game content. Players will be put “on a path to Va’ruun’kai”, where gamers will “uncover the secrets surrounding the Great Serpent” and ultimately decide the fate of House Va’ruun.

With gravitic anomalies and tears in spacetime, Shattered Space will showcase some of the strange elements of the Starfield universe. The DLC also brings close-quarters combat into focus and even has some horror elements in the expansion’s lengthy story. The DLC will feature a new planet, new weapons, new spacesuits, and new gear to collect.

In June, Bethesda’s Todd Howard called Starfield a success. Back then, Starfield had 14 million players and an average playtime of 40 hours. Since launch, Starfield has received a huge number of free updates, boosting the game’s performance and adding new features. For example, the PC version of the game now supports modern upscalers like XeSS, DLSS 3, and FSR 3. Beyond that, the game has improved maps, a creations storefront, and a sea of fan-requested improvements.

Will Shattered Space be a success for Bethesda and Microsoft? We will find out when the expansion launches on September 30th.
