CrystalDiskInfo combats fake Samsung SSDs with new [FAKE] warning
CrystalDiskInfo can now detect counterfeit Samsung SSDs, warning users
Last month, fake Samsung 990 Pro SSDs were spotted in Europe, and hiyihiyo, the developer of CrystalDiskInfo, has taken action against these counterfeit drives.
With CrystalDiskInfo 9.9.0, a new [FAKE] label has been added for fake Samsung SSDs. This gives PC enthusiasts an easy way to detect fake SSDs. This provides consumers with an alternative to using Samsung’s Magician Software, which can also detect fake drives. Given its compatibility with all SSDs, CrystalDiskInfo is a much more versatile tool than Samsung’s Software. Regardless, it is good that there are now several software solutions that can spot these fake SSDs.

High SSD prices have given fraudsters motivation to create more and more fake products. Over the past six-ish months, SSD prices have doubled, creating a strong financial incentive for the creators of fake hardware. Samsung has issued the following statement to Computerbase in response to their report on these fake SSDs.
Samsung takes such reports about counterfeit memory products very seriously. We are taking consistent action against the distribution of such counterfeits.
We recommend purchasing Samsung storage media exclusively through the Samsung Online Shop * or authorized retailers. Consumers can also use the Samsung Magician software * to verify that their product is genuine.
We are grateful for information from the market and consumers to quickly identify and investigate any cases. Users and partners can contact Samsung Product Service * if they suspect a problem.
