Other World Computing delivers insanely fast portable storage with their USB4 Express 1M2 SSD

Other World Computing unleashes the power of USB4 with their new Express 1M2 USB4 enclosure

Other World Computing has launched their first USB4 SSD enclosure, the OWC Express 1M2. This SSD enclosure allows users to access storage speeds of up to 3151 MB/s on the go, maxing out the potential of USB4.

As the enclosure’s name suggests, the OWC 1M2 is an enclosure that can contain a single M.2 NVMe SSD. This drive can then be connected to a PC through USB4. This makes this SSD enclosure ideal for use with Apple Silicon Macs, or any PC USB4 or Thunderbolt 4 support.

If users connect this enclosure to non-USB4 USB Type-C connections, this drive will be limited to USB 10Gbps speeds. This will limit real-world performance to 990MB/s speeds.

Within this SSD enclosure, users can install any M.2 NVMe SSD they wish. This enclosure can utilise M.2 2230, 2242, and 2280 NVMe SSDs. Users will need a high-speed PCIe 3.0 SSD to saturate the bandwidth of a USB4 port.

OWC are selling their Express 1M2 USB4 SSD enclosure as a standalone product. The company are also selling their product as a pre-built SSD with 1TB, 2TB, 4TB or 8TB storage capacities. The enclosure will support 16TB NVMe SSDs when they become available.

For just the enclosure, OWC are selling their Express 1M2 for $119.99 in the US. The enclosure is now available though the company’s website. The enclosure ships with a two-year warranty.
