Phison declares its E31T SSDs battery life kings at CES – Great laptop upgrade?

Phison focuses on battery life at CES 2025 with their E31T-based SSDs

One of the things that I love about CES is listening to industry experts talking about their products. They have a level of insight that we outsiders lack and can often tell us about things that we would otherwise never consider. At the Phison booth, one thing we talked about was battery life. Specifically, we talked about how your SSD choice can dramatically increase (or lessen) the battery life of your laptop. Because of this, we got a newfound appreciation for the mainstream Phison E31T SSD controller.

SSD Choice Matters

Below is a chart showcasing the battery life and performance of several SSDs in a PCIe 4.0 laptop. The chart tests a Phison E31T SSD, a Phison E27T SSD and a “Competitor P” drive that “the reviewers unanimously said was the most power-efficient PCIe Gen4 SSD.”

This chart opened our eyes to the impact of SSD power consumption on a laptop’s battery life. Phison’s data shows that its E31T drive delivers 31 more minutes of operation per six hours of system battery life. Remember that this benefit is against a competitor that is known to have a power-efficient drive. Compared to less efficient M.2 SSDs, the battery life difference could be more considerable.

With the right SSD, laptop users can increase the responsiveness of their systems and improve their PC’s battery life. This information is forcing us to reconsider how we review SSDs, as power efficiency sounds like a very useful metric for users.

Crucial just launched a new Phison E31T-based SSD called the P510

At CES, Phison confirmed that they have enabled support for Micron’s new G9 series NAND flash on their E31T SSD controller. Because of this, Crucial has been able to launch their new P510 PCIe 5.0 SSD.

With their new P510 SSD, Crucial can deliver 11 GB/s sequential read speeds and 11 GB/s sequential write speeds. Furthermore, Crucial also claims that this new drive consumes 25% less power than their T705 PCIe 5.0 SSD.

At CES 2025, we also looked at Phison’s new high-performance E28 PCIe 5.0 SSD controller.
