Sabrent showcases amazing external SSD performance with their upcoming Rocket XTRM5 portable Thunderbolt 5 SSD

Sabrent have given us a sneak peak at their upcoming Rocket XTRM5 portable Thunderbolt 5 SSD. This drive takes advantage of the Thunderbolt 5 interface, which can offer users two times the maximum bandwidth of Thunderbolt 3/4. This has allowed Sabrent to create an external SSD that can deliver similar levels of storage performance to internal SSDs. That’s great news for anyone who wants to work from external storage mediums.

Below, we have some benchmark results from a Rocket XTRM5 external SSD prototype. As you can see, this SSD can deliver users sequential read speeds of over 6GB/s. These levels of external SSD speeds were impossible before the arrival of Thunderbolt 5. The XTRM 5 is an external SSD that is effectively an enclosed M.2 2280-sized. This makes this portable storage solution incredibly small. The Sabrent XTRM5 will be available in 1TB, 2TB, and 4TB capacities. Furthermore, this SSD will be backwards compatible with Thunderbolt 4, and Thunderbolt 3 devices (at their respective maximum bandwidth levels).

This new SSD sports an all-aluminium enclosure design. This enclosure keeps the SSD within cool under load, and safe during transport. This SSD aims to be the fastest portable SSD on the market, making it an excellent solution for anyone who wants maximum performance from their external storage solutions.

Sadly, Sabrent has not revealed when this new Thunderbolt 5 storage solutions will be available. Pricing for this upcoming external storage solution also remains unknown.
