Ultra-fast Storage - Gigabyte launches their AORUS Gen5 12000 SSD

Gigabyte delivers top-tier SSD performance with their new Gen5 12000 SSD

Gigabyte has released their fastest SSD to date, a new PCIe 5.0 drive that is said to deliver a 70% performance boost over PCIe 4.0 M.2 storage devices. With a powerful Phison PS5026-E26 SSD controller and cutting-edge 232-layer 3D TLC NAND, gigabyte’s new AORUS Gen5 12000 SSD can deliver sequential read speeds of up to 12,400 MB/s, making this drive one of the fastest SSDs on the market.

Out of the box, Gigabyte’s AORUS Gen5 120000 SSD ships with a large M.2 “Thermal Guard Extreme” heatsink, which promises to keep the drive cool under heavy loads. Like other Phison PS5026-E26 based SSDs, Gigabyte’s AORUS Gen5 12000 needs a attached heatsink to achieve peak performance and a “throttle-free” experience. Without a heatsink, this drive may overheat and see its performance drop.

By shipping their drives with an effective heatsink, Gigabyte are giving their customers a choice between the build-in M.2 SSD heatsinks that are included on most motherboard and their own AORUS heatsink design.

Like all PCIe 5.0 SSDs, Gigabyte’s AORUS Gen5 12000 SSD can only achieve its maximum performance levels on a PCIe 5.0 compatible M.2 slot, which means that users of this SSD will need a compatible motherboard in order to get the most out of this SSD.

Gigabyte has stated that this new SSD features “optimized DirectStorage support”, and can be monitored using the company’s GCC (Gigabyte Control Center) application. This all allows users of this SSD to monitor its thermals and other real-time data for the drive. Below is a look at this SSD running CrystalDiskMark 7.
