Introduction

It’s been a long time since we’ve had an ASUS ROG Gene motherboard in the OC3D offices. Checking through our records it looks like the last one we tested was the Z390 which was a fair while ago in reality and a lifetime given how long the 2020s have felt so far.

What the Gene range has always offered is the perfect balance between capability and footprint. The smaller the footprint the, generally, smaller the price of the product when compared to similarly featured offerings in the full size ATX format. Whilst ITX-Mini motherboards might compromise usability too much for some people, an mATX motherboard is designed ‘normally’ and so will be familiar to most people in terms of what is where, whilst also not taking up additional space in your case for another x1 PCI slot you won’t use, or a third full length PCI Express slot you’ll not be putting a graphics card into. Heck even when SLI/Crossfire was all the rage we didn’t run three of them unless for fun.

With the X607E chipset and AMD AM5 socket requiring all the 5s, ASUS have added a Gene to their famous Crosshair range of motherboards, and that’s what we’re showing you today before our full review later on.

Technical Specifications

ASUS are keeping their cards close to their chest pre-launch and thus we have limited official information upon which to go. Whilst we can recognise everything thanks to our long experience you’ll have to await either our full review or an update to this preview for more official confirmation of what is what. If history is anything to go by then by the time you read this it will all be public knowledge, but that is the problem of having to write all this pre-NDA.
