ASUS ROG Strix B760-F WiFi Review

ASUS ROG Strix B760-F WiFi Preview

Conclusion

Of all of the B760 motherboards that we’ve reviewed, the ASUS ROG Strix B760-F is probably the closest in replicating what you would expect from the Raptor Lake Z790 range of motherboards. Whilst the others combine the B760 chipset with DDR4 support, the Strix F instead opts for DDR5, and combines it with a few more of the Republic of Gamers touches that we’ve come to expect. Certainly when compared to the white/silver D4 models.

If you’ve seen as many motherboards as we have then you can tell just from looking at the Strix F that its the premium model in the ASUS B760 range. The heatsink design on the 16+1 60A power stages just looks a little more carefully designed, combining heavily cut and stacked black heatsinks with some extra graphics and the RGB ROG Eye logo for a very attractive product. This feel is enhanced when you look at the two heatsinks that cover the three M.2 PCIe 4.0 slots, a closeup of which has adorned the top of every page of this review. Speaking of PCI Express the ASUS Strix B760-F has a PCI Express 5.0 x16 slot running from the CPU lanes to give your graphics card all the bandwidth it desires, whilst the other slots – 1 PCIe 3.0 x16 and two PCIe 3.0 x1 – run from the B760 chipset.

Performance across the board on all of our B760 reviews has seen how incredibly consistent the performance of our Core i9-13900K and the Intel chipsets can be. The days when one motherboard can be significantly better than another are long in the past and the freedom in product choice this affords cannot be overstated. The area where the Strix F really shines is maximises the utility of the DDR5 to push itself to the top of our gaming graphs. There are rare occasions where the extra latency of DDR5 cause it to be a shade behind the DDR4 motherboards, but gaming is unequestionably not one of those and for most of you this will be enough to make the difference.

If you have been looking at the 13th Generation of Intel CPUs with envious eyes but can’t quite stretch your budget to a premium Z790 motherboard then the ASUS ROG Strix B760-F WiFi is perfect bridge between the B760 chipset and the Z790. It has performance in all the right places and a premium look that cannot be denied, and it wins our OC3D Gamers Choice Award.
