Overclocking

As we discovered when we were looking at the Threadripper 2990WX on its own, overclocking it requires a huge amount of power as well as a goodly amount of cooling. On the ASUS we just squeaked the 2990WX up to the 4 GHz mark at 1.4v, whereas the dedication to the power phases that MSI have put into the MEG let it hit 4.05 GHz at 1.36v. The small reduction in core voltage just gives enough headroom for the extra 50 MHz. It might not seem much but that’s 50 MHz across 32 cores. It all adds up.
