MSI MPG X570 Gaming Pro Carbon WiFi Preview

Up Close – In Detail

The demands of PCI Express 4.0 on the chipset is expected to bring more heat to the equation which is why we’ve seen so many motherboards with active cooling. Hopefully this is a belt and braces measure for a new technology rather than an indication of what we can expect in the future. We also note that unlike the MSI ACE the Carbon hasn’t tied the chipset to the VRM coolers. Below the leading edge of the chipset cover we find two front panel USB headers, as well as two of the six onboard SATA 6Gbps ports.

At the bottom right corner we have two vertically mounted SATA ports, something we hoped had been consigned to the bin for aesthetic and cable tidying reasons. As well as those we have the front panel with a separate speaker setup, and an RGB header for the all-important lighting that is such a feature of modern systems.

We’ll cover the headers below, but this shot gives you a good view of the M.2 heatspreader included with the Carbon. with additional fins to expand the surface area and keep your current and future M.2 drives working at peak efficiency.

The bottom edge is full of things, from the Mystic Light RGB headerthrough three different system fans to provide you maximum flexibility in your cooling options, and ending with the USB ports. You can also see the steel reinforcement on the PCI Express 4.0 slots that help provide stability and longevity.

As is customary the onboard audio, supported by Audio Boost 4, is on a separate trace to reduce the possibility of interference affecting your audio quality.

Last up is the back plate where we make the cable spaghetti that is such a part of all our lives. With the we find, from top to bottom, the BIOS Flash button, USB 2.0 and PS2 port for your peripheral needs, then the USB 3.2 Gen1 ports and HDMI. In the middle are the antenna for the Intel Wi-Fi 6 802.11ax, then all the USB 3.2 Gen2 ports and LAN header, wrapped off with the audio jacks.
