The automatic turbo function is such a part of our lives we can’t understand how we lived without it, and the new Skylake-X CPUs come with multiple core turbo by default. No longer do you need to tinker around in the BIOS just to ensure that your dual-CPU programs can run at their optimum. Also the fact that Intel are willing to hand this off to the BIOS indicates great confidence in the yield of their silicon wafers, which is good news for all of us as it should negate a lot of the silicon lottery.
PCI lanes are one of those elements that it is easy to ignore, but once you work out that you need X to run your GPU(s) at their fullest, as well as another X to run your M.2 drives at their fastest, you quickly realise how limiting your current number of PCI Express lanes are. With 24 lanes (count em) on the X299 PCH itself and upto 44 available depending upon which CPU you buy bandwidth shouldn’t be an issue for a while.
