ASUS GTX780Ti DirectCU II OC Review

ASUS GTX780Ti DirectCU II OC Review

Introduction

To be fair an introduction for this particular card is nearly pointless. If a Luddite time travelled here and wandered past our array of technology in a haze of future shock, they’d still go “Oh yeah, new ROG card based around the best GPU around and with the DirectCU II cooler, I know exactly what I’m getting”. And, to be honest, they’d be right.

We all know exactly what we’re getting here. The GTX780Ti is a monster of a graphics card that still dominates the charts, despite the R9 290X getting very close in some tests. Combine it with ASUS’ knowledge and their excellent cooler and you can pretty much skip to the conclusion.

So if you’re brave enough to pore over the details with us during the next 19 pages, we thank you. Because the devil might just be hiding within them.

Technical Specifications

Surprisingly the OC part of the model name doesn’t seem to relate to a factory overclock, or if it does it’s the mildest thing this side of boiled potatoes. We’re so used to cards with a base clock past the 1GHz mark that to find one with a mere 954MHz on board is a surprise. Sure it’s 80MHz faster than a reference one, but we know that the GK110 GPU will easily pass 1GHz on even a “bad” overclocking chip. Thankfully the nVidia GPU Boost 2.0 is good enough that as long as the DirectCU II cooler is up to its normal quality the card will clock much higher anyway.
