XFX Radeon RX 6600 XT Merc 308 Review

Up Close

We always like the XFX packaging being so different to everyone elses. When you’ve seen as many boxes as we have we tend to turn into Bill Murray from Groundhog Day, “Anything different is good”.

The XFX MERC range has always looks the absolute business and whilst the 308 isn’t quite as shiny as the 319s were it’s still a gorgeous, triple fan card. There is a less silver model, the QICK, available but if you’re going all in you might as well get all the glitz and glamour of the MERC model.

Around the back we find the now familiar cut out that helps the inside fan push air towards your CPU area whilst also giving a bit of extra freedom for the heat dissipation. With an all-black but carefully vented backplate the MERC 308 looks just as nice from the bottom as the top.

The side you’ll primarily see, unless you go for a chimney case, is all swoops and soft curves sitting alongside prominent model identification. We’ve often mentioned how similar cards are and how tough it is to tell one from another, but the RX 6600 XT has no such issues. From this angle you can also see how subtle the MERC branding is on the backplate. Nearly invisible in the photo above but viewable here thanks to some careful use of gloss and matte.

Around the underside you get a closer look at the beefy heatsink sitting below that triple fan shroud. Even with a, relatively, less powerful GPU there is no excuse to scrimp on the cooling. Thankfully XFX continues their excellent work on the MERC 308 as they did with the full fat MERC 319.

We make no apology for showing it from a different angle. It’s gorgeous.

A closer look at the vent hole and the smaller drilled holes and cutouts on the backplate.

At the business end of this dual slot card there are three DisplayPort 1.4a and a single HDMI 2.1 for all your 8K needs. Okay we know this card isn’t designed for such resolutions, but if you’re solely using your PC for creation it’s nice to know you can have all the resolutions available.
