XFX Radeon RX 6600 XT Merc 308 Review

XFX Radeon RX 6600 XT Merc 308 Review

Conclusion

AMD clearly targeted the Radeon RX 6600 XT at the 1080 gamers of the world and they’ve been hugely successful in that aim.

As you can see we test a broad range of titles from console conversions to PC specific titles, slightly older ones to the very latest, harshest tests and in all of them the XFX MERC 308 came out shining. It’s nice to know that your money brings you the ability to not have to pick and choose which title you want to play, or check out the performance tweaks. Heck if you can run Cyberpunk 2077 you can pretty much run anything that’s currently available or is likely to be so for the next couple of years.

We’re also pleased to see how well it, generally, manages the higher resolution. With the price of 1440P monitors coming down, and their placement as the upgrade that doesn’t require massive hardware in the same way attempting 4K gaming does, it’s likely to be most peoples next update to their system. Having a GPU that only requires minor tweaks in certain titles to still be able to keep 60 FPS of smoothness is nice, especially in the fast changing world of graphics cards where no sooner than you’ve sold a kidney a new, faster, model comes out.

The XFX MERC 308 in particular looks the absolute business. We loved the cooler design when we saw it on the MERC 319 and it remains gorgeous here in 308 guise on the RX 6600 XT. Naturally it’s horses for courses but if you found the ASUS twin fan card a little small and prefer something that looks like a higher end model in your system even if it isn’t then the MERC 308 is a great choice. We were surprised that the cooler wasn’t as effective as the Strix, particularly given the, albeit very slight, performance deficit between this card and the Strix take on the formula. It’s still super quiet and doesn’t get hot as such, leaving you plenty of headroom if you want to flex your overclocking muscles.

There has been a lot of talk about graphics card availability and pricing in recent months, but the Radeon RX 6600 XT brings you all the gaming performance you realistically need at a price that anyone interested in gaming can afford. The XFX MERC 308 is a very attractive card with plenty of bells and whistles. If you wanted this design without the silver and RGB then you could grab the XFX QICK which is the same design, or even their SWFT should you want this GPU with no bells or whistles at all.

All in all the XFX MERC 308 RX 6600 XT continues their suite of excellent looking cards with plenty of performance and wins our OC3D Gamers Choice award.
