Gigabyte Aorus RTX 4080 Super and Nvidia DLSS

Introduction

Enthusiast. It’s such a key word, encompassing so much of our hobby. When it comes to gaming we tend to use it to describe people who do more than just game occasionally. It’s for people who use their spare time to game almost exclusively. Additionally there is a financial consideration. Gaming isn’t cheap, by any means. However, if you’re extremely flush with disposable income then the enthusiasm part is less important because you buy the latest and greatest regardless of cost.

So what if you’re an enthusiastic gamer? Not unlimited funds, but it’s the primary thing you spend any money on. As you’ll know from when we did our RTX 4080 Super reviews, it’s probably the best card on the market. More than enough performance for anything, even at 4K. But half the price of the flagship Nvidia RTX 4090. Certainly if you want a graphics card that’s as futureproof as realistically possible, it’s the best thing to spend your hill of beans upon.

Now talking about high performance and methods of gaining yet more performance is all well and good. However, you do need some examples. Fortunately, after months of us waiting patiently, Horizon Forbidden West has been released. The original Horizon Zero Dawn didn’t support all the fancy Nvidia trickery, but the new one does. Has there ever been a better opportunity to demonstrate clearly what DLSS brings to the party? Whilst we have a system built for our Forbidden West performance guide, we could also show off the latest patch for Cyberpunk 2077. If you only knew of CDProjekt Reds game because of the terrible launch, you will have your mind blown by what it’s become.

Anyway, enough preamble. We’ve got a Gigabyte Aorus RTX 4080 Super Master on hand, a system, and a handful of games. Let’s crack on.
