Nvidia RTX 4080 Super Five Card Review

RTX 4080 Super Introduction

It seems like Nvidia have taken 2024 to be the year of the refresh. We’ve already seen the RTX 4070 Super, a solution in search of a problem. Or a card in search of a worthwhile price point. We recently reviewed the RTX 4070 Ti Super, and found it to be the perfect balance between affordability and outright frames per second. With the launch today of the RTX 4080 Super, Nvidia are almost completing the set of refreshed cars.

The RTX 4080 is, undoubtedly, a complete beast. Whereas the aforementioned cards might be good for those who occasionally game as a hobby, the 4080 is for the serious. Those who love to game and want to do so without compromising image quality. Or frame rate. It’s a big step up in price, but also performance. There are some hardware things that cost more but do so without obvious benefit. Graphics cards have always, without exception, rewarded your investment.

Naturally with the RTX 4080 being so popular amongst the hardcore, there are lots of RTX 4080 Supers appearing today. We’ve got five. Count them. Three regular cards at MSRP. Also two utter behemoths, for those who game without limits. We look forward to finding out the benefits of both approaches. Certainly, as you can see below, the RTX 4080 Super has some extra hardware beyond that found on the vanilla card. Not masses. Just a little to give it a boost. If this card was released six months ago it would be a Ti.

What’s New?

How does it compare against the original RTX 4080 in the key areas? Well as you can see the Super isn’t beefed up so much it will be treading on the toes of the RTX 4090, but it’s still have a little bit of a lift in all the right places. Hopefully this will be born out in our testing.
