Up Close

Whilst Corsair might have adopted yellow as the colour scheme for their gaming range of peripherals, and the MSI Lightning often comes with yellow accents, Zotac have been the yellow brand for as long as we can remember and it’s nice to see them sticking with it even in this modern age of RGB lighting.

The front of the cooler looks the business with a combination of some very trick fans, carbon effect background and plenty of real estate for the RGB Lighting to do its thing. The AMP! Extreme is by no means the first cooler to experiment with fans that aren’t shaped in the manner you might expect, so we look forward to discovering if this particular solution provides cooler temperatures without increasing the noise level.

The backplate will probably divide opinion amongst you in the same way it has in the OC3D Office. Even now we can’t quite decide if it looks cool like the type of warning you’d see near the exhausts of a military jet or whether it just looks a little tacky. We’re sure you’ll let us know in our forums.

The heatsink part of the cooler if extremely deep and thick. We can’t remember seeing a card with quite this much metal underneath the shroud. As you can see from the later shots though once the card is installed everything is well covered, so it looks really good. Either way this is a beefy bit of hardware that promises good cooling performance.

The inputs and outputs of the AMP! Extreme follow the standard nVidia pattern of 8+8pin PCIe power inputs and the usual selection of HDMI, DVI and DisplayPort outputs.
